6 Essential Packing Tips for Precision Rifle Series

6 Essential Packing Tips for Precision Rifle Series

Are you ready to take your precision rifle skills to the next level? The Precision Rifle Series (PRS) is the perfect opportunity to showcase your marksmanship and compete against some of the best shooters in the world. But before you hit the range, you need to make sure you have all the essentials packed and ready to go. Here are 6 essential packing tips to help you prepare for the Precision Rifle Series.

1. Organize Your Range Bag Like a Pro

When it comes to packing your range bag, organization is key. You don't want to be rummaging around for your gear while others wait for you to start your stage. Start by dividing your bag into sections using small pouches or dividers. This will help you keep your gear neatly organized and easily accessible. And don't forget to label everything! You don't want to accidentally grab your snacks instead of your spare magazines (unless you're really hungry).

2. Pack Smart, Pack Light

When it comes to packing for the Precision Rifle Series, less is more. You don't want to be lugging around a heavy bag filled with unnecessary gear. Stick to the essentials: your rifle, ammunition, shooting bag(s), ear protection, dope cards, magazines, scope lens cleaning rag, chamber flags (I always drop one somewhere), and a good quality bipod. Leave the kitchen sink at home (unless you plan on shooting it).

3. Don't Forget the Snacks (and Water!)

Competing in the Precision Rifle Series can be a long and tiring day. You'll be spending hours on the range, so it's important to stay fueled and hydrated. Pack some energy bars, trail mix, jerky (my favorite) or other go-to snacks to keep you going. And don't forget to bring a jug of water to stay hydrated (many matches will have water dispensers or bottles on hand, so I take a jug to refill). Remember, a hungry or dehydrated shooter is a grumpy shooter!

4. Secure Your Travel Bag

Traveling to different PRS matches can be a logistical nightmare if you're not prepared. Make sure your travel bag is secure and your gear is well protected. Invest in a sturdy travel case or bag that can withstand the rigors of travel. And don't forget to lock it up! You don't want your precious rifle falling into the wrong hands (or paws).

5. Double Check Your Checklist

Before you head out to the Precision Rifle Series, double check your packing checklist. Make sure you have everything you need and nothing is left behind. It's always a good idea to have a checklist to ensure you don't forget any important items. And if you're feeling extra organized, you can even color code your checklist (because why not?).
